The Deep Reset

What Happens to Your Nervous System When You Unplug from Social Media

Turn Down the noise: What happens when you unplug from social media

In my last blog, I shared how to use the Messages from the Body book alongside the Core Emotional Healing (CEH) process to address the emotional root causes of your symptoms.

As I was writing to you, I realized:

You cannot deeply connect to your body, feelings, and intuition if you are distracted by digital noise.

In the beginning of 2026, I received a strong internal signal to step away from social media. The energy on Facebook was feeling heavy, draining and misaligned with my nervous system’s need for rest (especially in Menopause).

To honor that signal and call my energy back to my life here in France, I set a boundary and unplugged from the platform I was most consumed with (then my desire went away to be on the others too).

When we use social media to numb out, escape our reality, or constantly consume other people’s energy, we abandon ourselves. Taking a break helps us to reconnect, rest and reflect.

If you have been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from your intuition, here’s what happens to your entire being when you finally turn off the noise:

The Deep Reset:

What Happens When You Unplug

Your Mind (The Dopamine Reset): Social media is designed to keep us hooked on quick hits of dopamine. When you stop, the mental “fog” begins to lift. Without the constant influx of external opinions, your natural intuition—which is much quieter than an algorithm—finally becomes audible again.

Your Nervous System (The Cortisol Drop): Constantly absorbing the demands and comparisons of the online world keeps your body in a mild state of “fight or flight.” When you unplug, your stress hormones drop. Note: You may actually feel exhausted for the first few days. This is just the adrenaline wearing off! It means your body finally feels safe enough to rest.

Your Emotions (Facing the Quiet): Without a screen to numb you, any underlying emotions you were escaping will surface. You no longer compare your behind-the-scenes to everyone else’s highlight reel; instead, you have the quiet space to sit with your actual feelings and take care of your needs.

Your Energy (Reclaiming the Leaks): Every time you scroll and interact with endless posts and opinions, you are leaking your life force. Unplugging calls all of your energy back home, grounding you deeply in the present moment.

6 Gentle Ways to Support Your System in the Quiet

Stepping away from the noise can feel a little jarring at first. Here are five grounding tools to help your nervous system land softly into the present:

  1. Nourish with adaptogens: About a week before I fully unplugged, I started taking a daily Adaptogenic Potion from SuperSmart. As my body became supported and balanced, I naturally lost the need to escape into my phone, and I finally had the clarity to feel how much the digital noise was draining me. The blend I use contains Holy Basil, Astragalus, Elderberry, Turmeric, Ginger, Olive leaf and mycelium extracts: Reishi, Cordyceps, Turkey Tail, Shiitake, Chaga. Supporting your physical body creates the safety needed to hold your energetic boundaries.

  2. Have a quiet, slow morning: Leave your phone in another room overnight or if you use it for a clock, make sure to delete your social apps from your phone. Spend the first hour of your day entirely offline. Make your coffee or tea, look out the window, and just be still. Let your brain wake up to the physical world first.

  3. Release your thoughts on paper: As the digital noise fades, your own mental chatter might get louder. Grab a pen and paper and write down every thought, worry, or frustration. Don’t organize it, just get it out of your body and see if you reach a new idea, perspective and action. Then, close the notebook and walk away.

  4. Physical and somatic movement: When the mental noise gets loud, move your body to shift the stagnant energy. This could be taking a quiet walk in nature without your headphones, or doing an online somatic exercise routine (like “The Class”) to physically release stored tension. Intentional movement brings you out of your head and back into your body.

  5. Photography for joy: Take your phone or camera outside into nature. Take photos purely for the joy of seeing the beauty around you, but make a promise to yourself: You will not post them anywhere. This sends a message to your spirit that you value your connection to nature just for you.

  6. Sensory anchoring: When the urge to blindly scroll hits, change your physical sensation. Wrap yourself in a weighted or grounding blanket, step outside barefoot into the grass, wash your hands in cold water, or hold a hot mug of tea. This short-circuits the mental loop and pulls you back into the safety of your body.

Healing and integration requires us to be present, and presence requires a little bit of quiet.
